1. Identification of Core Faculty Research Groups.
2. Inter-Lab Tour and Presentations. To foster interactions, we have initiated a series of 'get-acquainted' presentations from individual research laboratories (see presentations). The purpose is to acquaint researchers with the wealth of instrumentation and approaches available at UCI.
3. Workshops and Lab Demos. Following the get-acquainted period, each faculty member will present a workshop on specific topics related to their research interests. These will be open to the campus community.
4. Participation in Seminar Programs. We seek to co-sponsor 6 seminars in existing departmental programs to increase visibility for the program.
5. Web Site and Recruiting. We will post notice of our programs on the OpticalBiologyWebPage, in a further effort to increase visibility and recruit potential graduate students and postdoctoral researchers. We plan to develop a recruiting poster.
6. Biophotonics Course. Given sufficient interest, we propose to launch a summer course on Biophotonics/Optical Biology. We hope to attract advanced graduate students and postdocs from around the world to come to UCI for an intensive course to include lectures, demonstrations, and laboratory projects. The course will be one week in duration and will include curriculum on probes, novel microscopies, and other optical methods. This course will greatly enhance UCI’s visibility in the area and serve as a magnet for recruiting.
